JRD TATA MEMORIAL LIBRARY invites you to celebrate Library Week. Join the campus community for events designed to enhance your academic experience, support research, and promote library resources.
Dates: November 10 — 14, 2025.
In observance of National Library Week, we invite the entire campus community to join us in a series of events listed below to create awareness and promote the library’s resources. These events are designed to enhance your academic experience, support your research, and help you discover valuable resources for learning and growth.
Events
Event #1 — Online Quiz (Monday, November 10, 2025)
- Quiz Details: 25 questions on library resources and services.
- Availability: The quiz link is active until 11:00 pm, Wednesday, November 13, 2025.
- Prizes: Five winners will receive prizes.

Event #2 — Open Book Quiz (Monday, November 10, 2025)
- Venue: JRD Tata Memorial Library
- Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Participation: Limited to the first 100 users (first-come, first-served).
- Instructions: Each participant selects a book from a pre-shortlisted collection and uses it to answer quiz questions (including the page number). Return the book to the library by 4:00 pm the next day.
- Prizes: Five winners will receive prizes.
Event #3 — Treasure Hunt (Tuesday, November 11, 2025)
- Venue: JRD Tata Memorial Library
- Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Participation: First 100 users (first-come, first-served)
- Instructions: Locate three specific books on library shelves based on bibliographic details provided.
- Prizes: Five winners will receive prizes.
Event #4 — Poster Competition (Wednesday, November 12, 2025)
Theme: “Silence to Success: Library in your Academic Story”
- Venue: JRD Tata Memorial Library
- Time: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Prizes: Five winners
Instructions & Specifications
Who can participate: All students, research scholars, faculty and staff of the Institute. Individual participation only (no group entries).
Poster specs:
- Size: A2 (16.5 × 23.4 in) or A3 (11.7 × 16.5 in)
- Orientation: Portrait or landscape
- Medium: Hand-drawn or digitally designed (Canva, Photoshop, PowerPoint, etc.)
Content guidelines:

- Posters should combine visual creativity with informative content, similar to research presentation posters.
- They should be self-explanatory, engaging, and convey a clear message about the library’s contribution to academic and research excellence.

1. Title
- Should be clear, thematic, and concise.
- Use a large, readable font.
- Include participant name, department, and institute logo below the title.
- Briefly introduce the importance of libraries in learning, research, and innovation.
- Highlight how libraries have evolved from silent reading spaces to digital knowledge hubs.
- Use short facts or data (if relevant).
- Clearly state the goal or message of your poster, such as:

- Showing how libraries enhance research and learning.
- Portraying libraries as centres of creativity, collaboration, and innovation.
- Promoting awareness of library services and resources.
- Organise the visual content into well-defined panels, similar to a research poster:
- Library as a Knowledge Partner: Access to knowledge, databases, and collections.
- Services & Technologies: Digital repositories, plagiarism checking tools, reference management, etc.
- Spaces & Engagement: Depict how quiet spaces promote focus (“Silence to Success”).
- Impact Stories: Include quotes, experiences, or creative illustrations showing how the library contributes to success.
- Integrate metaphors such as books as bridges to success, silence as growth, or knowledge as light.
- Blend artistic and academic elements for a balanced design.
- Cite any data, quotes, or facts that you have referred to for the poster.
- Optionally, acknowledge mentors who supported the idea.
- Maintain logical flow - top-to-bottom or left-to-right.
- Use clear headings and contrasting colours for readability.
- Follow a two-column layout for informational posters or a central focus layout for creative posters.
- Balance visuals and text (usually approx. 60% visuals and 40% text). Maintain adequate spacing between the contents to avoid overcrowding.
- Fonts: Use clean sans-serif fonts (e.g., Arial, Calibri, Helvetica).
- Incorporate icons, charts, or photos for clarity and appeal.
- Must be original work — plagiarised or AI-generated designs are not permitted.
- Include the Institute Library logo/name and National Library Week 2025 in the heading.
- Ensure text is readable and visually balanced with images.
- Use colors and typography that complement, not overwhelm, the message.
- Keep the content concise and impactful.
- Deadline: November 10, 2025.
- Submission Format:
- Physical Posters: Submit to the Library Circulation Desk.
- Digital Posters: Submit in PDF or JPEG format to [library@iisc.ac.in].

- Creativity & Originality — 25%
- Relevance to Theme — 25%

- Five winners will receive prizes
- All participants will receive a token of appreciation
- Selected posters will be displayed in the Library during National Library Week.
- Outstanding entries may be featured on the Library website and social media.
- Judges' decision will be final and binding.
Event #5 — Book Talk (Thursday, November 13, 2025)

- Instructions: Participants present a 5-minute summary and insights on a book of their choice.

Event #6 — Publishing & Research Integrity Workshop (Friday, November 14, 2025)
- In association with: American Institute of Physics Publishing
- Venue: Faculty Hall, Main Building, IISc
- Time: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Event #7 — Prize Distribution Ceremony (Friday, November 14, 2025)
